Building a Press Kit That Actually Works in 2026

By Vernon Douglas · June 6, 2025

A standard Electronic Press Kit (EPK) with a 500-word bio and one headshot is no longer enough. In 2026, your press kit needs to be a dynamic, multi-media story that proves your value to a busy label owner or festival booker. You are competing for attention in a highly visual and data-driven industry.

The 15-Second Hook

Bookers don't have time to read your life story. Your EPK should start with a "High-Level Summary"—one or two sentences that define your sound and your most significant recent achievements. Think of it as your elevator pitch. If they aren't interested in the first 15 seconds, they won't scroll down.

Data as Credibility

Include your metrics, but be strategic. Don't just list follower counts. Show "Engagement" and "Growth." Mention your best-performing tracks on Bandcamp, your most-streamed mixes, and any support you've received from major tastemakers. Use screenshots of charts or social media shout-outs as visual proof of your rising trajectory.

High-Quality, Flexible Visuals

Provide a range of photography: high-res press shots (both portrait and landscape), live action shots from recent gigs, and "behind the scenes" studio shots. Bookers need different types of images for different platforms. Also, include a 60-second "Showreel"—a high-energy video edit of your best performances. It’s the fastest way for a promoter to see that you can actually move a crowd.

Vernon's EPK Tip: Use a "Living Document" like a specialized website or a Notion page rather than a static PDF. This allows you to update your links, your latest tracks, and your tour dates in real-time. Give the booker a single URL that is always up-to-date.
