The Next 10 Years: Vernon's Vision for the Future

By Vernon Douglas · July 22, 2025

As I look toward the next decade, I see a landscape that is both more digital and more deeply human than ever before. The "hyper-acceleration" of technology will be met with an equal and opposite "hyper-local" movement. We are entering an era of "Intentional Electronic Music," where the depth of the experience will matter more than the scale of the spectacle. Here is my vision for where we are heading.

The Rise of the "Micro-Community"

The era of the "Mega-Club" is fading. The future belongs to the micro-community—small, specialized collectives that own their own spaces and sound systems. We will see a proliferation of independent, "member-driven" venues that prioritize specific sonic identities and radical inclusion. This decentralization will lead to a more resilient and diverse global scene, where local talent is the primary driver of culture.

Hybrid-Human Creativity

Technologically, we will reach a seamless integration between human intuition and machine intelligence. Producing and performing will become even more "live" and expressive. We will see the birth of new instruments that translate physical movement and biological data into sound. The boundary between "studio" and "stage" will completely disappear, leading to a new form of spontaneous, high-fidelity composition.

Sustainability as a Core Value

The industry will finally grapple with its environmental impact. From "Solar-Powered Sound Systems" to "Carbon-Neutral Touring," sustainability will move from a "nice-to-have" to a mandatory requirement. We will see a shift toward longer, more meaningful residencies rather than constant "fly-in" gigs. The connection between the music and the land will become a central theme of the global underground. We will finally learn to dance in harmony with our environment.

Vernon's Visionary Tip: Don't wait for the future; build it. If you want a more sustainable scene, start a green event series. If you want more micro-venues, build your own sound system. The next 10 years will be defined by those who stop asking for permission and start creating the infrastructure they want to see.
