BC Campus & Community Radio: The Electronic Submission Guide

Campus and community radio remains the most authentic platform for underground music in BC. These stations are run by volunteers who genuinely love the music. Getting your track played on air is a significant milestone for any emerging artist. Here is how to submit your music correctly.

1. CHLY 101.7FM (Nanaimo)

CHLY is an eclectic-freeform station. They prefer full albums but accept singles digitally. Submissions should be 320Kbps MP3 or AAC. Send Bandcamp codes or Dropbox links to music@chly.ca. They explicitly do not accept AI-generated music, making them a haven for real artistic expression.

2. CJSF 90.1FM (SFU / Burnaby)

CJSF is a powerhouse for electronic music in the Lower Mainland. Programs like "BITCOUVER" and "Amplified Radio Presents" are essential listening. They use the !earshot Digital Distribution System (!earshot Distro), which makes your music available to stations across Canada. If you want a wide reach, this is the most efficient route.

3. Kootenay Co-op Radio (CJLY / Nelson)

Nelson is the spiritual home of electronic music in BC, and CJLY reflects that. They have a dedicated email for electronic submissions: electronic@kootenaycoopradio.com. Do not blanket email; follow their genre-specific guidelines. Nelson audiences are highly educated, so send your deepest and most intentional work.

4. Vancouver Co-op Radio (CFRO 100.5FM)

Located in the heart of Vancouver, CFRO has a long history of supporting independent music. Their "Unsigned BC" show is a vital platform for local artists. Submissions should be in ZIP format containing tagged MP3s (192 Kbps minimum). Use their online submission form for the fastest response.

Vernon's Radio Take: Radio hosts are looking for content, not just tracks. Include a "Radio Edit" (under 4 minutes) and a few bullet points of "talking points" about your track or an upcoming local show. If you give the host something interesting to say about you, they are much more likely to play your music.
