Calgary and Edmonton: The Prairie Connection

While often overlooked, the electronic scenes in Calgary and Edmonton are built on a foundation of DIY passion and incredible resilience. These communities are tight-knit, welcoming, and consistently punch above their weight.

1. The Hifi Club (Calgary)

A Calgary institution for nearly 20 years, the Hifi Club has been the home for everything from house and techno to hip-hop and indie. It’s intimate, has a great sound system, and has hosted almost every major touring DJ that has come through the prairies.

2. 9910 (Edmonton)

A hidden basement gem in Edmonton that focuses on quality sound and diverse programming. It’s a community hub that supports local collectives and consistently brings in high-quality underground talent.

3. Bamboo (Calgary)

A newer addition to the Calgary scene that has quickly gained a reputation for its focus on house and techno. It’s intimate, vibes-focused, and has a dedicated following of "heads" who are there for the music.

4. Alberta's Festival Spirit

The prairie scene is heavily influenced by the surrounding festivals, like Astral Harvest (RIP) and the many boutique bush parties that happen in the summer. This festival spirit—of community, respect, and long-form sets—carries over into the club scene year-round.
